Title: Oxygen ozone therapy: from bench to bedside | |
Academic year: 2015/16 |
|
Aim of the school: In the last two decades, basic and clinical works on the biochemistry of ozone clarified both the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action of this gas in biology and medicine. Ozonetherapy is very useful in orthopedic disease as well as the dry form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cardiovascular diseases, COPD, cerebral diseases and healing disorders. Nevertheless, due to the oxidant property of ozone, physicians must acquire a complete knowledge of ozone mechanism of action. Starting from Prof. Bocci’s studies, this medical advanced course will elucidate the potential therapeutical role of ozone and its possible adverse effects in clinical practice. The Summer School will offer attendants all methods of ozone administration, including major ozonated autohaemotherapy, paravertebral and intradiscal injection, topical application, ozonated water and oil preparation during theoretical and practical lessons at a residential location of the University of Siena and at the Siena University Hospital.
